To ensure proper operation, hybrid ceramic ball spindle bearings typically still require lubrication when installed in equipment, although the lubrication requirements differ from those of all-steel bearings.

 

Hybrid ceramic ball spindle bearings generally feature steel inner and outer rings with ceramic rolling elements (such as silicon nitride, Si₃N₄). While ceramic balls offer advantages such as a low coefficient of friction, good self-lubricating properties, and resistance to adhesive wear or welding, the cage and steel rings still require lubrication to minimize friction and wear. Although ceramics are heat-resistant, friction-induced heat still occurs at the points of contact with metal components, and a lack of lubrication could accelerate wear. Additionally, in high-speed, heavy-load, or humid environments, lubricants help prevent corrosion and extend service life.

 

Selection of lubrication methods for hybrid ceramic ball spindle bearings:

1. For light-load, high-speed, or high-cleanliness environments-such as high-speed motorized spindles-minimal oil-air lubrication (micro-oil mist) or dry running (with specialized designs) may be selected, provided the design permits it.

2. For standard industrial applications-such as electric motors, gear reducers, and machine tool spindles-the use of high-quality grease or lubricating oil is recommended, with the specific type selected based on operating temperature and rotational speed.
