What Kind of Spindle Equipments Require Hybrid Ceramic Ball Bearings?
Hybrid ceramic spindle bearings adopt steel inner/outer rings matched with silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) ceramic balls. They become a mandatory choice for spindles under extreme working conditions, categorized by speed demand, precision standard, thermal stability requirement, anti-electric corrosion need, service life target and special industrial scenarios as below:
1. Ultra-high-speed spindles with RPM over 15,000
Spindles running continuously above 15,000 RPM, especially 20,000–100,000 RPM, must use hybrid ceramic bearings. Silicon nitride balls are 60% lighter than steel balls, which drastically cuts centrifugal force pressing balls against outer raceways. Standard all-steel bearings generate massive friction heat at high RPM, causing grease carbonization, cage deformation and rapid failure. Hybrid ceramic designs lift the maximum allowable speed by 30%–60% while lowering internal friction heat by 35%–60%. 2. Ultra-precision spindles requiring micron/nano-level machining accuracy
