High temperature resistance ball bearings are specially customized rolling bearings designed to operate stably in continuous high-temperature, high-dust and extreme thermal cycling environments. Different from ordinary standard bearings, they adopt exclusive material matching, heat treatment process and high-temperature lubrication solution, which effectively avoids failure problems such as thermal expansion jamming, lubricant carbonization, rusting and premature wear under high-temperature working conditions. They are core components for high-temperature industrial rotating equipment.

 

Feature

 

The high-temperature resistance of the bearing depends entirely on the matching of internal components. Each part has dedicated material and process requirements to adapt to high-temperature environments:

1. Inner Ring & Outer Ring

Main Material : High-carbon chromium bearing steel (GCr15 / SUJ2) with special high-temperature quenching and tempering treatment; high-grade high-temperature stainless steel (440C, 304) for ultra-high temperature models.

Process Feature : Secondary stress relief annealing is adopted to ensure stable hardness and dimensional accuracy at 200℃–500℃, prevent thermal deformation and raceway failure.

2. Steel Balls

Material : High-purity high-temperature resistant steel balls or ceramic balls (Si3N4 silicon nitride).

Function : Maintain roundness and surface smoothness under long-term high temperature, avoid ball deformation and scratching the raceway; ceramic balls are suitable for ultra-high temperature and high-insulation scenarios.

3. Retainer (Cage)

Ordinary nylon and plastic cages are prohibited. Three mainstream high-temperature configurations:

Stamped Steel Cage : Most common, good toughness, resistant to 250℃–300℃, cost-effective for general high-temperature equipment.

Machined Brass Cage : Best thermal stability, no deformation at 350℃–450℃, low friction, suitable for continuous high-speed and high-temperature operation.

Graphite Cage : Ultra-high temperature resistant (up to 500℃+), self-lubricating function, suitable for extreme high-temperature no-lubrication environments.

4. Seals / Shields

Metal Shields (ZZ) : Full metal closed structure, completely resistant to high temperature aging, suitable for most high-temperature dust environments.

Special Rubber Seals (2RS) : Customized FKM / Viton fluororubber seals, resistant to 250℃ high temperature, anti-aging and anti-carbonization.

5. High-Temperature Lubricant (Core Accessory)

Ordinary lithium-based grease will carbonize and fail above 120℃. High-temperature bearings are filled with high-temperature composite grease, silicone grease or solid molybdenum disulfide lubricant, which can maintain stable lubrication without drying or coking in the range of 200℃–500℃.

All scenarios with ambient high temperature, component heating, thermal cycling, or high-temperature flue gas radiation must use professional high-temperature bearings instead of standard bearings. Typical applications are as follows:

1. What determines the high-temperature resistance of ball bearings?

The high-temperature performance of ball bearings completely depends on the reasonable matching of internal component materials and professional heat treatment processes. Only when the inner/outer rings, steel balls, cage, seals and lubricants all adopt high-temperature resistant configurations can the bearing operate stably in high-temperature environments. Ordinary standard bearings will fail rapidly due to material and lubrication limitations under high temperature.

2. What steel ball options are available for high-temperature bearings?

There are two mainstream steel ball configurations for high-temperature bearings. The first is high-purity high-temperature resistant steel balls, which maintain complete roundness and smooth surface under long-term high-temperature operation to avoid deformation and raceway scratching. The second is Si3N4 silicon nitride ceramic balls, which are suitable for ultra-high temperature and high-insulation working scenarios with extreme environmental requirements.

3. What seals/shields are matched with high-temperature bearings?

Two mainstream sealing structures are adopted for high-temperature bearings to adapt to harsh thermal environments:

Metal Shields (ZZ): All-metal closed structure, free from high-temperature aging, suitable for high-temperature and dusty working conditions with strong anti-dust and heat-resistant performance.

FKM/Viton Rubber Seals (2RS): Customized fluororubber seals that resist high temperature up to 250℃, featuring anti-aging and anti-carbonization properties to ensure long-term sealing stability.

4. Why can't ordinary grease be used for high-temperature bearings?

Common lithium-based grease will dry up, carbonize and completely fail when the temperature exceeds 120℃, causing bearing friction increase, noise and seizure. Professional high-temperature bearings are filled with high-temperature composite grease, silicone grease or solid molybdenum disulfide lubricant. These special lubricants can maintain stable lubrication without coking or drying in the temperature range of 200℃–500℃, ensuring the normal operation of bearings.

5. What is the core configuration logic of qualified high-temperature bearings?

A qualified high-temperature resistant ball bearing relies on a complete set of professional configurations: high-temperature heat-treated ring materials, high-temperature resistant steel/ceramic balls, heat-stable cages, anti-aging high-temperature seals and dedicated high-temperature lubricants.
