For bearing model 6205-2RSNR: the suffix NR means the bearing outer ring is machined with a snap ring groove, pre-assembled with a complete snap ring upon delivery.

One-way axial positioning & prevention of bearing axial movement (primary function) The snap ring fits into the groove on one side of the bearing outer ring. After the bearing is pressed into the housing, the snap ring abuts against the shoulder of the housing, stopping the bearing from sliding axially inward or outward and dislodging under vibration and axial loads during operation. It maintains rotational concentricity, reduces vibration and noise, and extends bearing service life.

Simplify housing structure & eliminate extra locking components Conventional axial bearing fixing requires shoulders on both sides of the housing plus end caps or lock nuts for clamping. With a snap ring, only one shoulder is needed inside the housing; the other side is secured by the snap ring. No extra end covers, screws or lock nuts are required, greatly cutting machining procedures, assembly time and total component count for machinery.

Control axial clearance precisely It can withstand moderate bidirectional axial loads and limit bearing axial play for stable positioning.

Easy disassembly & maintenance The snap ring can be removed with circlip pliers to push the bearing out of the housing conveniently for inspection and repair.

 

 

Applications

 

Only one internal shoulder can be machined inside the bearing housing Compact space constraints or integrally cast housings make it impossible to create retaining shoulders on both sides. The snap ring serves as the secondary axial stop. Typical applications: electric motor end caps, fan scroll casings, small gearboxes.

Equipment runs under continuous vibration with alternating axial forces Conveyor rollers, fan impellers, agricultural machinery, power tools and automotive auxiliary transmission parts. Severe vibration will cause standard bearings without snap rings to shift and slip inside housings easily, hence snap rings are mandatory for anti-displacement purposes.

Mass production requiring simplified assembly & cost reduction Mass-manufactured motors, water pumps and conveyor rollers adopt snap ring designs to boost assembly efficiency and lower overall production costs.

Strict requirements for stable axial positioning without offset Small spindles, transport rollers and pump shafts. Bearing misalignment would lead to shaft eccentricity, oil/water seal leakage, which is avoided via snap ring locking.

Q2: What is the function of the snap ring on 6205-2RSNR? When is it mandatory?

A: The snap ring provides axial positioning, anti-shift and anti-drop protection. It is designed for compact housing with only one shoulder, high vibration working conditions. It replaces end covers and lock nuts to simplify assembly, widely used in motors, fans, water pumps, conveyors and small gearboxes.

Q3: What is the snap ring material? Is it rust-proof and temperature resistant?

A: Standard snap ring is made of 65Mn spring steel with black oxide anti-rust treatment, temperature range -40℃~120℃. 304 stainless steel is optional for humid & salt spray environments, and silicon-manganese alloy for high-temperature conditions.

Q4: Can I remove the snap ring for use? What are the consequences?

A: Removable butnot recommended. Without the snap ring, the bearing will lose axial fixation, causing shifting, eccentricity, abnormal noise and even dislodging under vibration and axial load. It can be removed only if the housing has double-side positioning shoulders.

Q5: Difference between 6205-N and 6205-NR?

A:

6205-N: Outer ring groove only, no snap ring

6205-NR: Groove + factory pre-assembled snap ring, ready for installation
